BUNNAHABHAIN DISTILLERY, distillery notes :

THE BUNNAHABHAIN DISTILLERY lies on the peaceful, sheltered north-eastern coast of Islay and is a real gem of a distillery, the most southerly of the Hebridean Islands. Built in 1881 its name comes from the Gaelic, Bunnahabhain (Boo-na-ha-venn), meaning 'mouth of the river', a reference to the Margadale, the river from whose clear Spring waters the whisky is distilled.

These waters tumble though ancient sandstone rocks from high in the surrounding mountains trapping the water so it doesn't run through the peat beds as at other distilleries on the Island. The water remains free from the peaty phenols which would influence the final flavour of the whisky at the distillery.

The distillery is now in the hands of Burn Stewart who has been promoting the whisky as the " gentle taste of Islay".
Tasting Notes :

The nose offers fresh andaromatic experience with a subtle whiff of smoke floating through the air. The taste starts with a light fruit and nut appeal that leads to spectacular malty sweetness, finishing into a beautifully rich full-bodied lingering experience.
